LESSON 8 INSTRUCTIONS:

LESSON 8 INSTRUCTIONS:

1.
Waltz on C.
The practice sheet on page 7 uses a method of plus 1 practice.
You can practice 1 measure + the 1 beat of the
next measure. The idea is that students have a tendency to
stop or pause at the bar lines and this practice technique
moves us past the bar lines. It is the same if you were memorizing
a poem, memorizing the sentence plus the first word of the next
sentence.
Practice each set of measures 5-10 times before learning
the next measures. Once you have practiced page 7, move to page 8.
practice the complete song using plus 1 practice.

Playing Middle C in both hands Measure 17:
The left hand is holding the C for 3 beats, but the right hand
has to play the same C on beat 3. How do you do that?
On the 3 beat play the C with the right hand thumb, but...
try to maintain the feeling of legato.
2 reasons to write the music using this method.
1. It's a practice in hand independence
2. In classical music, you will be holding a note but...changing
the finger, so that the legato is maintained. Sometimes,
the hand has to change positions to reach notes higher or lower,
but the composer wants a certain note held for an effect.

2. Rhythms: More on note values, rests and putting hands together.
There is a page that skips to #26, You will receive the other pages
soon.
