Free Beginning Piano Lessons, #7

LESSON 7 INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Something new in our rhythm sections. How to play piano chords.
We will be playing 3 notes together, called a chord. This helps to strengthen the fingers, practice counting and prepare us for some fun playing chords. When playing notes together the fingers must push down the keys at the same time. If you listen closely you will hear if the notes are sounded together. Remember your fingers have to be trained to become strong so practice this several times.

We have skipped a couple of pages to start the chords. You will receive them in the next lesson. First we will learn How to play chords.

3. Fun on C Chord. This song is for the right hand and is written on
C Chord. Practice each measure separately then move to the next measure. When you have finished practicing each measure in a staff, play the whole staff then move on to the next staff.

Hand and finger positions for the piano chord:

1. Place your fingers on the C chord Notes, C-E-G using the
1,3 and 5 fingers.

2. When you move up to the note A, move the 5 finger to A and the 4 finger to G.
The fingers 1 on C, 2 on D, and 3 on E, will remain the same, do not move them, let them remain above those notes and ready to play.

You will learn the song faster and always play the correct notes if you only move the necessary fingers, not the whole hand. Do not move your hand from this position.

BEFORE YOU GO TO THE LESSON: This is the first lesson you can practice the song with a piano duet or orchestral duet.
Practicing with other instruments will help you play with correct rhythm playing smooth and with the correct beats. This is where you can excel when studying with Music and You, so be sure to take advantage of our study, and copy the duets to a CD.
